Switch MD - Smarter Patients
Switch MD is a community interested in new plastic surgery, dermatology, and non-surgical medical spa treatments. We're about information and dialogue that goes beyond a press release or phone book ad, and connects you directly with other patients, clients, and providers in a way that wasn't possible before. Our goal is to provide smart patients a look behind the curtain without the hype that you find around beauty magazines and paid medical sites.
Switch MD was started by physicians and industry insiders that recognize the need for unvarnished information and unbiased reviews of cosmetic treatments and procedures.
Switch MD is a companion site to Medical Spa MD which is primarily for Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, and Cosmetic Physicians. This site is a place where anyone can find information about a specific treatment, physician, technology company, clinic, or medical spa.
Behind The Switch
My name is Jeff Barson. That has always been my name. I am married to a charming designer named Shelly. We live in Park City, Utah, with our fifteen-year-old daughter, Madison, our seven-year-old badboy, Jai (a Bouvier), and the Norse God of Mischief, Loki (in the form of a Cokatoo). We also have a number of horses; Pharaoh, Keikie, Maverick, and Moon (my daughters eventing horse). The chaos in our house is ... well, there's really not that much chaos.
I have built businesses and sold stuff. I do both equally well.
In a previous life I was an artist. I lived in Manhattan, for the duration of the 90's where I fell in love with night-life and being able to walk past the guy with the 'list' (if you don't know what this is you're not a New Yorker).
I grew up in Utah and England. In England I attended Beachwood Park Preparatory School for Boys. You know it as Hogwarts. I'm not kidding. I wore a tie and went to school 6 days a week where I learned Latin and horse riding in addition to whatever else they were cramming into my young brain. I learned to eat with my fork in my left hand, refer to everyone older than me as 'sir', and practice magic including the Patronus Charm. On my return to the US I was four years ahead of my compatriots and of course had a great English accent which I can still turn on when needed.
Having been more than a little successful as an artist, I turned my hand to being an entrepreneur and in 2000 I started a cosmetic medical business called Surface. I grew Surface Medical Spas to six clinics in four states and worked with dozens of plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and other doctors. Surface Medical Spas was one of a handfull of successful operations. I have opened eight medical spas, consulted with more than 40 individual physicians, lectured to hundreds of physicians, sold millions of dollars of medical treatments, and like to think I'm respected in this field. I know whereof I speak. (Of note: I'm not a doctor, I just teach doctors how to run cosmetic practices.)
Needing to develop a network of physicians as we grew, I started Medical Spa MD.com, a site that is now the premier site on the web for plastic surgeons, dermatologists and physicians interested in Medical Spas and new nonsurgical cosmetic medical treatments.
I started this website in June 2008 to provide the same type of straight shooting information for patients.
This website is for patients of cosmetic medicine who want to be smarter and know what's going on behind clinic counter. If you're looking for the same old BS that covers every magazine and web site you're in the wrong place. This is a no bullshit zone. Since this site takes both time and money to run I run some advertisements on it and am creating a directory of plastic surgeons, dermatologists and medical spas. I think it's a fair trade.
I love what I describe as epic, sad paintings, old black and white movies that run on Saturday morning, and my family. I also love NY but it's no place to raise a kid with horses.
I also include my headers here so I can see them.
